End of Summer; Beginning of School

Last year, Jesh's class visited the botanical garden. They each brought home a sunflower seed in a little pot. Jesh has loved watching his seed grow.

But a sunflower seems like a poor choice in a city where no one has a yard. We transplanted the seed into the dirt next to a tree along our sidewalk. With the number of dogs that walk down our street, we thought the seed would probably die, but when we came back from vacation it had a bloom!

Since then, the stalk has snapped, but the kids haven't realized it. They see the bloom hanging down and say, "Mom! It's drooping! We need to water it!"

This is a picture of us in the elevator on the way to church. I couldn't get a shot that wasn't blurry so I just went for the cutest faces.

Waiting for a stoplight on the way to church.

The day before school started we did some painting outside. The kids were supposed to paint a big styrofoam airplane, but they mostly painted the sidewalk. (And we will not be doing that again; our neighbor did not like it!)

We use a sleep sack as our picnic blanket, and Darcy wears it like a hiking backpack.

And finally, here is Jesh on the second day of school. We didn't get the quintessential first day shot of kid in school clothes and backpack standing in front of the school on the first day, but this gives you a pretty good sense of what his school is like.

On day two, he bumped his head and had to come home early. (He is totally fine, but the school has a policy that kids have to go home after any sort of head injury.) This video is from our walk home from school.
